In 2022, we had to have some work down on our (new-to-us) home related to sewer and drainage. It was a terrible experience, as men we hadn’t hired came and dug 10 feet down around our entire home, killing every square inch of plant life in their path far beyond the pipes that they needed to install and leaving us with bare soil, unsettled, unrooted soil throughout the fall, winter, and early spring. I was angry at the circumstances and at their work, and I was worried every day about mudslides.

Since then, I have been working very hard to repair and revitalize the land, to treat it with love and care, and to grow roots back into it. It gives me great joy to see the busy hubbub of life that now visits daily.

These poles were the lot markers placed on our land to indicate where our property lines ended and where we were told they would dig. I didn’t want to be angry anymore, and I knew that transforming the markers would allow me to transform the relationship with the land.
